Cookies and Local Storage
Last updated 5 October 2026 Version 1.0
The short version
- The Turtle FM web app stores only what it needs to work: your sign-in, your guest ID, your age choice, language and settings, and your privacy choices.
- No advertising cookies. No third-party tracking. No social-media pixels.
- Analytics are not switched on. If we switch them on, they will run only if you agree.
- You can clear this storage at any time in your browser — but if you are a guest and haven’t signed in, clearing it means starting over.
1. What “cookies and local storage” means
Cookies and browser storage (such as localStorage and IndexedDB) are small pieces of data a website saves in your browser. Apps save similar data on your phone. We use the term “storage” for all of them.
2. Storage on the web app
The web app at https://turtlefmapp.turtletechsai.com uses only strictly necessary storage — storage without which the Service you asked for could not work. Under UK and EU rules (PECR and the ePrivacy Directive) this does not require consent, but we tell you about it here.
| What is stored | Why | Type | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sign-in tokens (access token and refresh token) | Keep you signed in, as a guest or with your account | Strictly necessary | Access token about 1 hour; refresh token up to 60 days, or until you sign out |
| Guest ID (a random identifier) | Link this browser to your guest account so your progress, coins and unlocks are kept | Strictly necessary | Until you clear it or sign out |
| Age choice and, if relevant, the under-13 or region block | Apply the age rules and avoid asking again | Strictly necessary | Until you clear it |
| App language, content languages, onboarding progress | Show the app in your language and skip steps you’ve done | Strictly necessary (functional, requested by you) | Until you clear it |
| Your privacy choices | Remember what you agreed to and what you didn’t | Strictly necessary | Until you clear it |
| Playback settings and progress waiting to sync | Resume where you left off, even after a dropped connection | Strictly necessary | Until synced or cleared |
What we do not use
- No advertising or marketing cookies, and no ad-network tags on the web app.
- No cross-site tracking, social-media pixels or “like” buttons.
- No selling or sharing of data collected through cookies (see the Privacy Policy).
Analytics — only with your consent, if switched on later
We may later use PostHog for product analytics. It is not switched on today. If we switch it on:
- it will load only after you agree to “Personalisation and analytics” in Privacy choices;
- it would store an anonymous identifier in your browser (for example a
ph_…_posthogentry); - you can withdraw consent at any time in Privacy choices, and we will stop sending events and remove the identifier;
- if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we will not switch on analytics for that browser.
We will update this page before analytics go live.
Sign in with Google or Apple
If you choose Continue with Google or Sign in with Apple on the web, Google or Apple may set their own cookies on their own websites during sign-in. These are controlled by Google and Apple under their privacy policies; we do not read them.
3. Storage in the mobile apps
The iOS and Android apps do not use browser cookies, but they store similar data on your device:
| What is stored | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in tokens | The device’s secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore-backed storage) | Keep you signed in |
| Guest ID, age choice, language, privacy choices, settings, onboarding progress | App’s private settings storage | Same reasons as on the web |
| Progress waiting to sync | App’s private storage | Resume and sync after going offline |
| Downloaded episodes | App’s private storage (not accessible to other apps) | Listening offline. Deleted automatically when an episode is no longer available to you |
| Cached artwork | App’s private cache | Faster loading; refreshed regularly |
| Push token (only if you turn on notifications, once push is switched on) | Provided by Apple or Google | Sending the notifications you asked for |
Advertising identifiers. The apps do not access your device’s advertising ID (Apple IDFA or Google Advertising ID) today. If we add rewarded ads, the ad network may use it only with your consent (and, on iOS, only if you allow tracking in Apple’s prompt). We will update this page and the Privacy Policy first.
4. How to clear storage
Web: use your browser’s settings to clear site data for turtlefmapp.turtletechsai.com, or use a private window. Signing out also clears your sign-in tokens.
iOS: delete the app (this removes its storage). Sign out first if you have an account.
Android: Settings → Apps → Turtle FM → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app.
Before you clear anything as a guest: your guest account is linked to the guest ID stored on this device or browser. If you clear it without signing in first, you will start as a new guest, and we may not be able to recover your progress, coins or unlocked episodes. Sign in first to keep them.
Clearing storage on your device does not delete your account or data on our servers. To do that, see Delete your account.
5. Changes
We will update this page before we change what we store — for example before switching on analytics or ads.
